1. What is The Argus electronic edition?
We publish the newspaper six days a week in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, produced from the same source as the printed paper. It looks the same and can be viewed on screen or printed off.

We use PDF format because it's compatible with most computers in the world and preserves the formatting of the printed edition, which helps to make sense of such a large volume of content.

2. What's included? What isn't?
The whole of The Argus is converted to electronic format and uploaded - that's news, sport, features, classifieds, everything. The electronic edition doesn't include supplements or special publications.

3. What kind of computer do I need to view it?
You should be able to view The Argus on any computer capable of running the required software and with an internet connection. Obviously, a colour screen and fast internet connection will improve your reading experience. The system should be completely compatible with PCs, Macintosh computers, Linux etc - please let us know if it isn't!

4. What software do I need to view it?
You will need internet browsing software for your computer (such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Safari or Opera) to access our online subscription service. In addition you will need Acrobat Reader from Adobe to read the PDF pages. If you don't already have Acrobat Reader, you can download a version for most systems here.

5. What kind of internet connection do I need?
Any type of internet connection is fine, though PDF files, especially of whole newspaper pages, can become quite large. We recommend at least a 56k standard dial-up connection. Broadband will naturally make everything much quicker.

6. How do I get to today's edition?
Go to the log-in page (click here or use the link on the left of every page in this section). You can also log in directly from the front page of this site.

8. What if I forget my password?
There's a link on the log-in page marked 'Forgot your password?'. Click on it, fill in the email address you gave us when you subscribed and press the 'send me my password' button. Please note: For security reasons, we will only send passwords to addresses already on our subscriber list.

9. I can't log in - what do I do?
If you have problems logging in, first try deleting and retyping your username and password. Be particularly careful to use capital letters in the right places, and check for blank spaces at the beginning and end. If your problems persist, please email webmaster@theargus.co.uk - if you see an error page, please copy and paste the text into your email.

10. Can I view the pages on another computer?
You can view The Argus electronic edition wherever you are, providing you have an internet-capable computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.

11. What if I go on holiday?
The last three editions of The Argus will be available at all times. If you're going away for longer, you'll need to find a net-connected computer - unfortunately we can't archive pages for longer than three days.

12. I'm having trouble downloading the pages
If your computer seems to hang or freeze while downloading the pages, try instead clicking the right mouse button on the link (Ctrl-click if you're on a Mac with a one-button mouse) and selecting 'Save Target As…' (Mac users: 'Download Link to Disk'). Save the file on to your desktop, then start up Acrobat Reader, choose file -> open and choose the file you saved.

13. Why are some pages attached to unrelated pages?
Sometimes you may find a page will appear as a double-page spread but the page on the left won't match up with the one on the right. These 'false spreads' are a side effect of the printing process required to make photographs 'bleed' across the centre of a spread. Unfortunately there's no satisfactory way of weeding them out or splitting them up.

14. What happens when my subscription runs out?
We'll email you a reminder shortly before your subscription is due for renewal. If you wish to continue reading The Argus online uninterrupted you must renew your subscription no later than a week after your account expires.

15. How do I renew my subscription?
Shortly before your subscription expires we’ll send you an email giving details of how to renew using our secure server.

16. How do I cancel my subscription?
Please see our terms and conditions page for details of our refund policy.

17. Can I print pages off? Can I email them to friends?
The Argus electronic edition runs under a single-user agreement for domestic customers. You can print off a page for your own personal use and keep a copy of it on your hard disk, but you can't share your subscription or copy your saved pages. For full details, please see our terms and conditions page.

18. I'm having problems printing. What can I do?
The Argus PDF pages should be set up ready to print to an A4 desktop printer. If you aren't getting a whole page you may have to adjust your settings via 'Page Setup' or 'Printer Properties/Options'. Because every printer is different, it's not practical to give detailed instructions here for all of them.
